▼▼ Handmade Craft Ball ・・・> TEMARI  — A Lucky Charm Born 1400 Years Ago.

◆What is TEMARI?
TEMARI is a traditional Japanese craft.
This TEMARI was made by myself, taking many days to complete.

◆History of TEMARI
About 1400 years ago, Japan was ruled by noblemen, a privileged class.
Among them, there were many power struggles.

At the center of this time were two young and strong leaders.
Their friendship began with a game where 4 or 5 people kicked a ball with their feet.

Later, the two defeated the most powerful ruler of the time.
After that, they built an era of peace and prosperity.

The key item in this story is TEMARI.
At that time, TEMARI was a ball used for kicking games.

This story is even introduced in elementary school textbooks.
TEMARI has been a lucky charm — both in the past and today.

◆Have you seen the movie "Shogun"?
As time passed, TEMARI changed its form.
About 420 years ago, the Edo period began, and it lasted for about 260 years in Japan.

Recently, there was a movie about a Shogun.
A Shogun is the leader of samurai who ruled their lands through battles.
Including the Shogun who was the model for the movie, 15 generations of his descendants ruled Japan.
The Edo period was a long, peaceful time.

During this peaceful era, many traditional Japanese cultures were born.
TEMARI also became popular among the upper class as a decorative artwork.
Especially, rich and elegant women loved TEMARI as ornaments.

◆TEMARI is a playful art that fits in your hand.
TEMARI is made by wrapping rice husks with Japanese paper.
The rice husks used are heat-treated.
Then, the surface is wrapped with cotton thread.
Furthermore, colorful embroidery threads are stitched onto the surface.

The common size of TEMARI fits nicely in the palm of your hand.
Designs of seasonal flowers, like cherry blossoms, were especially popular.
Each TEMARI is unique, reflecting the creator’s sense and playful spirit.
It is a traditional Japanese craft and culture, just like kimono, Japanese cuisine, Noh, and Kabuki.

◆TEMARI appears in the anime "Demon Slayer."
Japanese anime and games are now important parts of modern Japanese culture.
Do you know the anime "Demon Slayer" (Kimetsu no Yaiba)?
In one episode, TEMARI appears as a weapon used by a villain.

Also, if you look closely at the clothes of the main good characters,
you will notice that some of their outfits feature an "ASANOHA" pattern.

Because of this, TEMARI with ASANOHA patterns has become very popular.
Some of my listings on eBay also include "ASANOHA" in the title.

Please enjoy choosing your favorite piece from two perspectives—size and design.
Which size of TEMARI will you choose?
・Small Size – Diameter: approx. 6.5 cm / 2.5 in (similar to a tennis ball)
・Medium Size – Diameter: approx. 7.6 cm / 3.0 in (similar to a baseball)

And which pattern do you prefer?
・ASANOHA
・SAKURA (cherry blossoms)
・ROSE
    …and more

Each TEMARI also comes with a plastic case and a small dish, so it can be used as a charming container for accessories or small items.
Add a touch of handmade beauty to your space or give it as a thoughtful gift.
